| Juan Carlos Botero studied literature at the Universities of The Andes, Harvard and Javeriana. His thesis, entitled The Zones of Influence, represented a new way of examining the formative process of a novelist. In 1986, he received for El encuentro (The Encounter) the Juan Rulfo Story Prize, for which the panel of judges was composed of Augusto Roa Bastos, Julio Ramón Ribeyro and Severo Sarduy among others. In 1990, he won Mexico’s Latin American Story Contest. He has contributed as a columnist to the Colombian newspapers La Prensa, El Tiempo and El Espectador, and his stories have appeared in eight respected anthologies. |
