FERNANDO BIRRI
ARGENTINA, 1925

Fernando Birri studied at the Centro Sperimentale de Cinematografia in Rome, where he made his first short films. He founded the mythical Santa Fe Documentary School in Argentina, where he pioneered the new-fledged Latin American cinema, both critical and popular. A poet, painter and author of major theoretical texts, and the founder and director of the International School of Cinema & TV in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, this roving artist still has a lot of running left in him.
