HERMANA BERNARDA*
ARGENTINA, 1927

Sister Bernarda, an Argentine nun of German ancestry, has authored several cookbooks that quickly became bestsellers in Argentina, Mexico, and other Latin American countries. Her basic idea about kitchen recipes is ‘the simpler, the better.’ For her, cooking and meditation go together. What she does is teach cooking as a spiritual exercise. She also has a television program, which is being telecast to more and more countries every year. Unlike other popular cooks, Sister Bernarda triumphs with large servings and home-cooked dishes like our grandmothers used to make. ‘The television nun’ still lives in the same convent which has been her home since 1957.
100 Recetas. Cocina y meditación is her best-selling book.
