| Mario Benedetti is Uruguay’s most famous living author. From the same generation as Julio Cortázar, Carlos Fuentes and José Donoso, he is one of the relatively few writers to have successfully combined a sense of aesthetic mission with a political conscience. His novels are at once some of the most profound and most towering literary portraits of Latin America society as a whole. La tregua has reached more than 100 reprints in Spanish. |
