EDITH ARON
ALEMANIA-FRANCIA-ARGENTINA-INGLATERRA, 1927

Edith Aron was born in the border town of Sarre (then French, today German) and emigrated to Argentina with her Jewish family. She has been living in London for many years. An austere writer who jealously guards her privacy, she has published a handful of short stories and discreetly autobiographical texts in German, her mother tongue. Aged 80 she has only recently admitted in public to being the famous Maga of Julio Cortázar’s novel Rayuela, perhaps the most celebrated female character in the whole of Latinamerican literature.
Edith Aron’s stories fully reveal the
distinctive genius that attracted Cortázar,
whom she met on a sea voyage from
Argentina to Europe when she was 23.
